Environmentally "Green" Technology
Low VOCs and little odor
Citadel’s Polyurea contains low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and produces no toxic fumes during the application process. Typical Epoxy systems, on the other hand, produce clouds of toxic fumes for many hours after application. These fumes are dangerous to people installing the coating as well as people and pets in the general vicinity. VOCs emit greenhouse gases and are suspected to be carcinogenic.
The EPA VOC regulation for concrete protective coatings is set at 400 g/L. Polyaspartic coatings have near-zero VOCs and fulfill the Federal Government’s 2010 VOC requirements. However, different regions have their own regulations for VOCs.
Regulations will only get stricter in the future. Products with low or zero VOCs are in a good position to stay on the market and attract environmentally conscious consumers.

Citadel’s Polyaspartic is an extremely durable product which was developed for and will withstand both ordinary and extraordinary wear and tear.
- Due to its chemical makeup and structure, Citadel’s Polyaspartic creates a very strong bond with concrete and has the ability to expand and contract with change in the surface and underlying ground temperature. This means there is no chipping, cracking or hot tire pick-up. Hot tire pick-up occurs when a car’s tires are hot from driving; the heat and pressure from the tires may melt or peel the paint or coating, separating it from the floor.
- Citadel’s Polyaspartic maintains its color and does not fade or yellow when exposed to direct sunlight.
- Citadel’s Polyaspartic is a ‘tough’ surface resistant to scratching, water, salt, oils and other chemicals one might find in a garage or in a vehicle.
Floor colors and styles
The cost of Polyaspartic floor coatings is very comparable to epoxy coatings, but when you consider the differences between the two, Polyaspartic is the clear winner.
